Studies of the Nore Valley
Recently exhibited at '6' Exhibition,
Kilfane Glebe House Studio, Thomastown, August 2020
This series of paintings was begun in March 2020, as the health crisis led us to lockdown within 2km of home. Feeling very fortunate to live in the beautiful Nore Valley, I walked fields, hills and river banks during the Spring and early Summer, with my paints and easel. I started out with studies of single fields, wanting to explore the undulation and shape of each one as a composition. As I continued, I began to see the topography of the lands in the changing light as ancient gestures of the glacier than formed them. Walking and feeling the movements and folds of the land, under changing skies, inspires this ongoing body of work. All of these landscape studies were done from nature, in the vicinities of Inistioge and Thomastown.
